1st Grade Music:
We are First Grade Musicians! We can keep a steady beat, echo rhythms with syllables, use our singing voices, move our bodies, create, and play LOTS of different instruments!
In first grade we will have an "informance." This is a chance for us to showcase what we have learned (and some things that are "in progress") during first grade music.
NOVEMBER:
This month, we've continued working with the resting tone, but in the context of a song. Ms. Miller taught the song, "Jack the Turkey" which gives the students several opportunities to respond with, "Yes, Ma'am!" which is sung on the resting tone.
Rhythmically, students are beginning to decode familiar patterns. This means, that they are applying rhythm syllables (du, du-day) to a neutral pattern that is presented to them. We will demonstrate this at our informance! I love hearing how the children are solving this musical puzzle. Decoding is a readiness for reading and writing rhythms! We're on our way!
OCTOBER:
First graders are learning to respond to patterns with the resting tone, "do" for songs in major. We also learned A BUNCH of Halloween songs. Ask you child about, "I'm a Little Ghost." This is a great song that we learned and we get to create a new ending! We are improvising in music! So much fun.
1st graders are continuing to work on steady beat. We listen for big beats (du) and little beats (du-day), and we are always moving! Pumpkin Patch is a favorite poem of the children. Children get the opportunity to echo rhythm patterns in duple meter during class…not long until we are reading!
